CAIRN TERRIER BREED COUNCIL MEETING HELD SAT 5TH OCT 2024

For Club Secretaries & for Breed Notes

The Breed Council Autumn Committee Meeting was held at Greens Norton Community Centre – all 6 Member Clubs were represented.

The following items were the subject of discussions:

  • JCTC Cups

As previously agreed Silver Cups to be included in the SCTC auction – reserves set at minimum valuation – funds to go to Breed Council.

  • Breed Club Supported Shows

All clubs need to support at least two shows.

  • Breed Council Treasurer Retiring

Mrs Goldfinch is retiring at the 2024 BC AGM.  Anyone interested in taking on this role to contact Mrs Kinton, BC Secretary.

  • Breed Council Newsletter

Mrs Bennett creating the first Newsletter.  An update regarding the status of the CTRF will be included.

  • Cairn Terrier Health Group

A new CTHG Constitution is being finalised and will include the members Roles & Responsibilities.  The co-ordinator had received a request from the RKC regarding Ocular Melanosis, advising that it had been discussed by the BVA/KC/ISDS Eye Panel Working Party as a possible inherited disease to be added formally to the scheme under the Known Inherited Ocular Disease list (also known as KIOD) – this has been circulated to the Clubs for their opinions.

  • BEC/Judging List/Mentors

Plans were finalised for the BAD/MCE taking place on the 20th October 2023 with Mrs Waugh delivering the presentation.

A “Hands On” was discussed and Mrs Firth is looking into the possibility of holding an assessment on the day of their open show in March 2025.

  • Championship Show Entries

Mrs Firth reported that despite contacting a number of General Championship Show Secretaries, there had been no responses to the offers of £50 towards judges expenses if they were to schedule a Breed Specialist judge.

  • JEP

The KC had recently published an update on the JEP and the it was noted that 30th December 2025 would be the last date for Grandfather applications and therefore it was felt that people need to be encouraged to go through the new route.

  • Judges Lists

The lists are now removed from the BC Constitution as approved by the RKC.  It was noted that Mrs Byrne and Mrs Waites now have confirmed first CC appointments for 2025 and

Mrs Yates-Johnson now moves to the A1 List and Jennie Miller to the A2 List.

  • Mentors

Mr Thomas has asked to come off of the list and Mrs Bennett and Mrs Dolan have gone onto the list.

  • Breed Historian

A small team have volunteered to assist with pulling together an inventory in order that the BC can review and take a decision on what needs to be retained and what the storage requirements will be.

  • Breed Council Website

The Committee agreed to go ahead with the proposed new BC Website, this would be regularly backed up and maintained.  It is anticipated that it will be ready in approximately a month.

  • Breed Liaison Council

It was noted that the 2024 Autumn meeting had been cancelled.

  • Cairn Terrier Breed Council Membership Clubs

All clubs had expressed that they wished to continue as Members and in doing so will be asked to confirm what their Membership numbers were as at the end of December 2023.

  • 2025 AGM

Agenda items for inclusion will be Constitution Changes, Election of Officers, Treasurers Report & Approval of BC (2024 EOY) Accounts.  It was agreed that the BC AGM would be followed by the CTHG AGM and then the BC Committee Meeting.  Date to be confirmed
